Playwright and historian Charles L. Mee, Jr. is known for his inventive and exciting adaptations of the Greeks. With Bacchae 2.1, he once again displays his talent for contemporizing the classics, transforming Euripides’ cautionary tale The Bacchae into a celebration of the dark, suppressed, and secretly delicious. Better judgement loses sway as Dionysus leads us into the green hills of total freedom, where love becomes hate, orgies become armies, and lingerie doubles as armor. Kenn Watt directs.
Final performance: December 17, 2023
