Sometimes our real families are not the ones we are born into. In The 8:05, a chance encounter at a train leads to an unlikely alliance between Joey, an outcast woman struggling with her identity and Jeff, a boy who cannot reconcile the loss of his father. When Jeff prevents Joey from throwing herself in front of the 8:05 commuter train, Joey is inspired to return the favor by fixing the family’s dilapidated house. But Joey becomes more than a handyman, and is ultimately responsible for the family’s journey to healing. From the ashes of abandonment, a family emerges with a new sense of purpose and possibility. Shows are followed by audience discussion.
