About This Show

Award winning playwright Erik Ehn examines the symbolic landscape of Swedish folk tales in Swedish Tales of Woe, presented by the Undermain Theatre. In the first play, Gold into Mud, a boy leaves his home accompanied by his trusty weathervane rooster. They encounter a confused giant consumed with spinning gold thread into mud and straw. In Stripping for the Dead Man, an impoverished Gypsy prince seeks his fortune to win his lover’s hand in marriage. The only problem is that he must die in order to collect it. All the while, the Sun and Moon battle for dominance of the sky and a lonely mermaid seeks out her lost love.
