About This Show

Acclaimed theatre company Clubbed Thumb presents their 9th annual summer theatre festival of new plays, Summerworks 2004. The festival kicks off with an evening of Vaudeville acts entitled Thumbscrews on June 2nd (at 8 PM, hosted by Seth Herzog).

Summerworks nurtures new plays in different ways, by presenting readings, boot-camp development, three mainstage productions and an evening of innovative vaudeville kicking the festival off. This year’s three mainstage productions are:

Of a White Christmas By Rinne Groff, directed by Trip Cullman
A woman becomes an architect and builds a dream house, but only in her dreams. The play explores our responsibilities to our fantasies as well as to our reality.

Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake) By Sheila Callaghan directed by Katie Pearl
Janice and her mother are having trouble dealing with the death of their father and husband. When Janice asks for seven very strange objects for Christmas, her mother complies, but when the true nature of the gifts is revealed a cataclysmic event occurs. Special appearances by Harrison Ford and Justin Timberlake.

Those Who Can, Do by Brighde Mullins directed by Maria Mileaf
When Ann Marie leaves a lucrative career as an advertising executive to teach poetry, her Ivy League degrees still leave her at a loss in the NYC public school system. She embarks on a hilarious and sinister journey into the perils of the American Education System.

This year’s FREE Reading series takes place June 16th and 23rd and includes: Sheila by Kate E. Ryan, directed by Kip Fagan on June 16th; and St. Enid and the Black Hand by Molly Rice on June 23rd.
