Jehriko Turner adapts Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya into a stage play, featuring musical performances.
The original, Uncle Vanya, takes place on a family-owned Estate in turn of the century, rural Russia. This version is set in Harlem, at a music studio operated by Estate Records, a music label. The tale, however, has not changed much over the course of a century. Sound of the Estate remains faithful to Chekhov’s themes of wasted life, unrequited love, and disjointed family.
