About This Show

Sundog Theatre will present Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry 2013 opening March 9 and running in Staten Island through March 17, then opening in Manhattan for a three-day run March 21, 22, 23. Six scripts have been chosen from an international competition. This year the stories entail a surprise “twist” ending.

Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry initially consisted of six original one-acts in 2003 that were written, directed, rehearsed, and performed within 24 hours. The presentation evolved into a playwrighting competition where writers from throughout the world yearly submit short plays that have their setting on the Staten Island Ferry. Due to enthusiastic audience and media response, Sundog now presents Scenes… annually. The best are chosen for production in the spring of every year.

The winners of this year’s playwrighting competition are: Hardboiled by James Vincent Bocchicchio; Ferry Me Home by Kay Ellen Bullard; Gift Wrapped Box by Blaise Miller; Shiny Things by Helene Montagna; Somewhere Between Falling by Eric Petillo; Words, Words, Words by Larry Raiken.

This program is supported in part, by public funds from the NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, Councilman Vincent Ignizio, Councilman James Oddo, Councilwoman Debi Rose; NY Community Trust; Bloomberg Philanthropies.
