New York City
For fourteen summers, Shakespeare in the Parking Lot has been offering New Yorkers an alternative to its more famous cousin, Shakespeare in the Park, by converting the underused parking lot into a small outdoor urban theatre. Over the years, productions in the parking lot have welcomed ambitious interpretations of Shakespeare’s canon frequently rooted in aspects of the Lower East Side. This production of Romeo and Juliet sets the oft told tale as a battle between two urban homeless families. Juliet’s balcony is the roof of a car.
