About This Show

Nuyorican Poets’ Cafe presents Revelations from the Deep: The Souls of Black Men, written and directed by Marjorie Edwards, RN.

Find out what makes Black men “tick” and what makes them “sick” as experienced by six Black men whose voices come alive through the words of playwright, Marjorie Edwards, RN. The show is grass-roots, experimental theater in its purest form with no real beginning, middle or “end-to-end” coupled with flavorings of poetry, hip-hop and monologues throughout.

Each character has his own vibe—RAH, an ex-con /drug dealer trying to go straight; WILL, successful entreprenuer/single father, sturggling to maintain success in both roles; EDDIE, a “corporate-flavored” transformed player/mack who’s in love and fighting the Corporate
glass ceiling; TAHRIQUE, an ex- R & B star trying to “get-back-on-top;” N.B., a teenager struggling with peer pressure and independence; SPIRIT, the African spirtual voice of ALL BLACK MEN. Consequently, the characters in the play address and resolve personal and community issues as one body–ONE UNITED FRONT. Revelations from the Deep… guides us on a rocky and educational journey through the Black man’s world as written by a Black woman.
