The brutal rape of a woman and the murder of her husband brings the infamous bandit, Tajomaru, to trial. But what really happened and who is really to blame? Rashomon is based on the stories of Japanese author, Ryunosuke Akutagawa, and was made popular by the 1950 film by Akira Kurasawa. The play focuses on the inability of any one man to know the truth, no matter how clearly he thinks he sees things. Perspective distorts reality and makes the absolute truth unknowable. There is no such thing as an objective truth; it is a grail to be sought after, but which will never be found, only approximated.
