Queer@HERE

HERE Arts Center presents their fourth annual Queer@HERE festival. This year’s event features over 50 artists performing dance, film, comedy and puppetry. The schedule is as follows:
Carmelita Tropicana Variety Show, Thursday, June 1 at 7pm – Carmelita Tropicana, the national songbird of Cuba, brings the audience the best, queerest acts of the Western Hemisphere. The show stars Lizerace, Coco Frio, Uzi Parnes, Ari Gold, and Charles Scott Richard.
The Queerest show on Earth, Thursday, June 1 through Saturday, June 10 at 10:30pm – A one-hour vaudevillian performance piece hosted bu Judie Ruliani (played elegantly by Johnnie Moore). Special guest appearances by Chichi Castenango, Dr. Abhora, Basil Twist, Charles Kaiser, Allan Tibbets, and surprise guests.
Fabulous Ride into the Inknown, Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2 at 10:30pm – Directed by Roland Tec, this solo performance play by Bruce Ward chronicles the lives of ten NYC men through the tumultuous 1980s
Mars behind Bars: A Sexual Autobiography, Friday, June 2 throguh Sunday, June 4 at 8pm – Written by Shelly Mars, directed by Janice Deaner. With unflinching honesty and humor, Mars explores her life as a Jewish lesbian from small-town Ohio who moves to New York to become an actress. She exposes her wacky family, her ongoing therapy, and the sex business into which she inadvertantly fails to make ends meet.
The Girl with the Polka-Dot Eyes, Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3 at 7pm – This unauthorized biography of Liz Renay is written and performed by Maggie Moore. inspired by real life great grandmother sex kitten, Renay, who hit the headlines after winning a 1949 bra company paegant, served time for her connection to a mob czar, streaked down Hollywood Boulevard, and was plucked to star in John Waters’ Desperate Living.
The Nestlers, Saturday, June 3 at 3pm – Written by Michelle Meyers and Robin Strober, this play has the audiences confronting Rosemary’s Baby, unsightly body hair and scary lesbian love
