New York City
A show about growing older, older men, and bathing suits.
Poolside plays as a one-woman show of sorts, but it is really an ensemble piece presented in mixed styles — monologues (Penny the 1935 Wheat penny chorus girl, Pepsi the fat Kentucky housewife, Jane Minot the Parisian writer of erotic fiction, and others), stand-up, storytelling, and song. Pammy has a sidekick in Larry the Musician, who is onstage most of the one-hour running time, and doles out unsolicited commentary, jokes and interludes of violin. Larry is recently widowed and concerned with what to do with himself now and moreover, how to meet women.
