New York City
Every New Yorker has a “worst date.” The lucky ones have a “best date.” Play/Date offers a snapshot of 12 such dates – be it a blind date, love at first sight, or the last call before a one night stand – in 12 short plays, each written by a different playwright.
Three plays are performed simultaneously in each of four rounds, with a chance between rounds to grab a drink at the bar. Each play is only performed once and the audience will construct their own experience by physically moving between the dates staged at tables throughout the bar. Play/Date creates something akin to theatrical speed dating, with the audience sipping cocktails as 8 actors perform 12 plays featuring a motley crew of 34 soul mates, missed connections, and everyone in between (including the bartenders that unite them all).
Inspired by the New York dating scene – replete with Facebook stalking, treks to outer boroughs to get laid, and ugly public breakups – Play/Date promises something for everyone.
