The WorkShop Theater Company continues its 2003 season with Operaplay, a new romantic comedy by Rick Eisenberg about the world’s greatest operatic tenor.
Rome, 1980: Umberto Ecarazzi has sat atop the opera world for decades. But now, the once unparalleled voice is fading – and people are beginning to notice. Confronted with the terrifying prospect of having to sing the first opera televised LIVE around the world, Umberto’s confidence and willingness to sing – EVER – are rapidly slipping away. His managers, faced with the loss of enormous income, put into play an elaborate and devious scheme designed to lure him back to the stage. The plan requires the participation not only of the vainglorious soprano Umberto lusts after, but also the truehearted maid who loves him — but who is compelled to suppress her love in order for the unsavory plot to succeed.
There is a special Champagne Gala on Saturday, September 6th for $35.00.
