Mono a Mono With Ingrid Griffith and Kim Chinh

Mono a Mono, a solo performance series at Bowery Poetry Club, continues with two amazing performers: Ingrid Griffith and Kim Chinh! Griffith will perform ‘Demerara Gold’ and Chinh will perform ‘Reclaiming Vietnam’. These powerful and moving works explore themes of immigration, abuse, loss, discovery and acceptance.

In Demerara Gold a 7 year-old girl in Guyana must say goodbye to her parents who suddenly get visas to America. The spirited girl is left in the worlds of her strict grandmothers: one is a recluse, the other a religious fanatic. Ingrid must hold tight to her dreams and keep her spirit alive as the time without her parents grow longer.

In Reclaiming Vietnam a young woman arrives in Vietnam to explore a lush, foreign country in search of her roots. Vietnam, the homeland of her father, is a part of her identity she has rejected for most of her life, wishing to be seen as “American” (like her Caucasian mother) and not “the other”. The
