About This Show

Following up last November’s sold-out run at Joyce Soho, Anemone Dance Theater is creating Mikros Kosmos, its 5th evening-length New York concert, for the intimate space at CRS.

In Mikros Kosmos, Anemone choreographers Sara Baird and Erin Dudley and their collaborators layer luminous video projections, original music, sculptural costume and set designs, and Butoh-inspired dance to create a surrealistic dreamscape. The program features live musical performances by violinist Christopher Tignor and by Miriama Young, as well as original music by Kenneth Kirschner, video projections by Shimpei Takeda, and scenic design by Joel Sherry. Each dance is a distinct microcosm — defined by Anemone’s rich visual imagery and metamorphic quality. Episodes take place in icy Artic climates, during the downpour of a monsoon, and from a high perch in the treetops. Shifting stratospheres, Anemone and its collaborators address themes of isolation, love and sensuality, and the tensions found between nature and modern technology.

“Luscious…” — Jennifer Dunning, New York Times

“Sara Baird, choreographer and Anemone’s co-founder, is Odysseus’ sea siren, mesmerizing us with her spell of pure beauty.” — June Julian, NY Arts Magazine

“[Anemone Dance Theater creates] a shared vision that allows for the audience member’s dreams to interact with those of the dancers.” — Nick Feitel, Gay City News
