Cookie Mueller, who died of AIDS in New York City in 1989, was a writer, actress, mother, outlaw, fashion designer, go-go dancer, Dreamlander, witch-doctor and much, much more. Love Dr. Mueller follows Cookie as she blazes a trendsetting trail through the 60s, 70s, and 80s: from her childhood years in Baltimore, to her drug-fuelled sojourn in San Francisco during the "Summer of Love", to the raunchy set of Pink Flamingos, to the stages of topless bars in New Jersey, and finally to New York’s East Village where she donned the persona of "Dr. Mueller" and wrote an advice column for the East Village Eye. Love Dr. Mueller is the first play to tell Cookie’s story and is adapted from her book of collected writings, Ask Dr. Mueller. This production is receiving the full cooperation of Ms. Mueller’s estate.
