About This Show

Haunted by whispers and a hovering sense of secrecy that recalls Soviet Russia’s repression, Ivy Baldwin’s Gone Missing presents five characters wandering through an unfamiliar, ominous forest. Through her dancers’ movements and a set consisting of large trees, Baldwin suggests snowy storms and treacherous ice, a sense of natural and psychic desolation. The world premiere dance theater work is structured as a series of vignettes inspired by Edward Gorey’s darkly witty illustrations and text. The score, which features Russian folk songs and nature sounds, is created and performed live by the dancers.

Through highly physical, intense partnering, Kate Weare looks at desire from a female perspective in Wet Road, a world premiere. Weare uses the whirling lifts and driving, tangled legs of the tango to suggest struggle between power and femininity inherent in a woman’s assertion of self.
