About This Show

Asia Society presents a theatrical dreamscape, Forgiveness/Mourning, a visually haunting work – based on excerpts from two major theatrical productions – colliding Beijing opera, Korean dance, and Japanese Butoh. Forgiveness, created by director Chen Shi-Zheng with composer Eve Beglarian, is inspired by a classic Chinese ghost opera of murder and revenge, and gives voice to the complex collective memory and emotions of a post-world war II generation of Chinese, Japnese and Koreans. Mourning, features the renowned Japanese-born contemporary duo Eiko & Koma in a work that originally premiered as Night Tide.
