About This Show

1845’s satire Fashion leaves the moutains for the salon, where pretenses battle for pre-eminence and no one is what he or she seems. Milliners dress as ladies, cooks pose as counts, clerks overpower men of means, and true virtue wears a buckskin coat. Campy and funny, the play is a clear vision of the roots of American postures and pitfalls, with a moralistic center and a wide racist streak. Under Alex Roe’s direction, the production will be a comedic reflection on changing mores, sex roles, and apolitical correctness.
