About This Show

Adapted from Thomas Hardy’s novel, Far From the Madding Crowd blends original music and English folk songs to chart the tempestuous journey of Bathsheba Everdene as she struggles to find her place in the world. While she finds it easy enough to manage her prosperous farm, it is far more difficult for Bathsheba to control the vagaries of her heart. A girlish prank sets in motion events that build inexorably to tragedy and to Bathseba’s ultimate acceptance of love.

The score for “Far From the Madding Crowd” is the work of composer Gary Schocker, a world renowned flute soloist and the most-published living composer of chamber music for the flute, with 6 CD recordings for classical audiophile labels, Azica and Chesky. Book and lyrics are by Barbara Campbell.
