About This Show

Written by Mary Gage, this play is the result of Ms. Gage’s project to travel to Midland, Michigan and interview six individuals over eighty years of age in local retirement homes. She wove their memories into a play that resembles jazz music in the way that each character takes a solo turn while the others form an ensemble chorus. These vintage Americans who represent a variety of nationalities rich in life experience, speak for the men and women that came to America and toiled and sweated, suffered and survived to build this country. At the start of a new and uncertain century, Evensong celebrates our ancestors for the steadfast lives they lived and the wisdom they pass on.
