About This Show

Transforming Sophocles’ Tragedy of Electra, Elektrafire: A Modern Rock Opera features women in all leading roles, and explores conflicts ranging from abuse to murder to righteous vengeance. With a guitar-driven score reminiscent of Nirvana/Tool, this royally dysfunctional royal family detonates in this bloody rock-fueled psychodrama. Elektra, royal princess in the House of Atreus, is surrounded by murder, lies, abuse and torture. She, her sister Chrysothemis, and their brother Orestes must work together to escape the brutal manipulations of their mother, Queen Klytemnestra, and bring peace to their lives. Each must decide what is right and wrong, what is justice and what is revenge, and what’s the proper response. Elektrafire tells a chilling tale of empowerment and self-reliance.

Elektrafire is presented as part of the 2007 New York International Fringe Festival.
