Atlanta based transgender artist, Scott Turner Schofield has been named a Young trans Hero by The Advocate. He had many comings-out over the years, at 16 as a lesbian, at 18 as a radical feminist, and at 21 as a transgender man. Debutante Balls is a comedic look at coming of age and coming out as a queer white Southern belle. Scott uses his personal experiences as a southern girl to highlight the challenging and often hilarious issues of gender, sexuality, race and class inside the “silk wall papered halls of High Society.” What does happen when a debutante comes out feminist? Or when a lesbian turns transgender? And what is a debutante and how and why do they ball?
Debutante Balls is presented as part of the Fifth Annual Fresh Fruit Festival.
