Dear Charlotte is about Charlotte Bronte, the parson’s daughter from the Yorkshire moors who wrote some of the most celebrated novels in the English language, including Jane Eyre. When she received a letter from an English poet advising her that “literature cannot be the business of a woman’s life and it ought not to be,” it set Charlotte on a path to her greatest project: creating a heroine in her own image. Joy Gregory’s play is presented as part of the New York International Fringe Festival.
