About the Show

The Braata Folk Singers are celebrating five years this year. Since its inception the group has been performing around the New York Tri-State area providing members of the Caribbean Diaspora with an invaluable connection to their native countries. The show will contain elements of storytelling, dance and movement, proverbs, and songs that are unique to the islands, and that have formed part of its rich oral history. Whereas Reggae, Dancehall and Carnival have already been imprinted on the Caribbean Diaspora, authentic folk culture which marries both the European and African legacies that are embedded in the nation’s people and their way of life will be highlighted.
