Binge: Short Plays with all the Fixins! is the latest installment in The Shalimar’s (www.shalimarproductions.org) annual Short Play Festival. Binge is a seriously gluttonous romp that explores food and food politics. A highly curated evening, Binge is a collection of 6 plays commissioned by The Shalimar each based on a different cookbook. They span the ages from the first American cookbook written in 1776, to a cookbook published by the Food Network in 2008. This festival features exciting new work by playwrights Mando Alvarado, Rebecca Brunstetter, Kirk Lynn, Sybil Kempson as well as Princess Grace Award winner Kara Corthron and Princess Grace Statue winner Michael John Garcés. All the plays are bound together with video performance by Zhenesse, a provocative downtown performance artist. This witty and engaging evening is sure to leave you full and it might just give new meaning to the saying “you are what you eat.”
Please stick around after the December 6th performance for a special benefit event…
