About This Show

Behind the Limelight, featuring lyrics and music by Christopher Curtis, is a new musical that explores the life and art of the legendary Charlie Chaplin, one of the world’s most beloved performers… with one of history’s most turbulent careers.

Featuring three actors as Chaplin — the child, the tramp and the old man — Behind the Limelight takes us from his vaudeville days to his groundbreaking work behind and in front of the camera, from his first wife to his third (and many women in between), to his American naturalization, to his exile brought about by Hollywood’s gossip mill and the House Un-American Activities Committee and ends with his final days as he looks back on his life and films, wondering if any of them will be remembered.

This NYC premiere is presented as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival.
