Mexico’s third largest city started its’ first ballet company 18 years ago, when philanthropist Yolanda Santos founded Ballet de Monterrey. She made it her mission to bring art to the fast-growing northeastern Mexico city and mine the wealth of talent trained especially in the city. Under its first artistic director, Ann Marie D’Angelo, three months later, they presented “The Nutcracker” a tradition which still continues. The company dances a diverse repertoire of classical and contemporary work and tries to keep the Latin American identity.
