About the Show

Tooth and Nil Theatre Company presents Ballad of Yachiyo, by Philip Kan Gotanda. This traditional tale spun in a lyrical style tells the story of a young Japanese-American girl’s sexual awakening and tragic end. Set against the harsh backdrop of Hawaii’s early twentieth century sugar-cane plantation system and tempered with Japanese ritual and refinement, Gotanda creates a moving elegy to his own aunt on whose life the story is based. Laura Somers directs.

The first performance on February 27 is FREE! The remaining Thursdays are “Starving Artist Productions,” with patrons entering at 1/2 price with 2 cans of food.
