Asphalt

Racine, an aspiring DJ who mixes elements of jazz, classical, and “trip hop” beats tries to transcend his urban reality in this dance/opera. Asphalt has a book and lyrics by Carl Hancock Rux, a vocal score by Toshi Reagon, and an instrumental score by DJ Spooky. Jane Comfort choreographs this production in which dancers chant, gesture and sing, transforming the space into a surreal rave. it is presented as part of Ice Factory 2000.
