About This Show

Chashama presents the world premiere of Anne Washburn’s Apparition, an uneasy tale of the underknown. Directed by Linsay Firman, the production stars downtown favorites Steven Rattazzi (2003 Obie Award for Painted Snake on a Painted Chair) and T. Ryder Smith (Underneath the Lintel, Richard Foreman’s January 2004 production).

The show is a dark funhouse of deeply theatrical non-optimism. Here urban ghost stories alternate with bouts of fake Latin. The story of Macbeth is told and retold; while waiting to go on the actors playing the witches hold a head count, and discover they are one too many. Demons appear in suburban back yards and reappear elsewhere in another narrative; a couple in an attic can’t decide if they are alive or dead. And there is a terrible rustling in the Weevil Forest. It is a world of apprehension set in the boundry between sleep and waking, life and death.

Schedule: Nov. 7 – 9, Nov. 13 – 17, and Nov. 19 – 23. All performances are at 8:00pm.
