About This Show

Alive In The World, a new musical in progress by Paul Scott Goodman, receives its premiere at the 2006 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Kurt Deutsch directs a cast that includes Kelli O’Hara (The Pajama Game, The Light in the Piazza), singer/songwriter Greg Naughton, Marcy Harriell (Rent, Lennon) and Aaron Lohr (See What I Wanna See, Bare the Musical).

New York City Now. Kate, a political activist, is married to Sam, a prematurely retired Wall Streeter, but she falls for Michael, a painter. Sam meets Stella, a 9/11 widow. This evolving new musical attempts to capture moments in our time, evoking place, memory, love, loss and hope in New York City, where the specter of terror hangs heavy. How do we reach for happiness? Who do we hurt by doing so? How do we feel Alive In The World?

This particular NYMF production is unique in that audiences will have a rare opportunity to truly see “a new musical in progress,” as the show will be developing until just before its premiere performance; they will also be participating in the creation of a new musical as the creative team looks to gauge audience feedback as Alive In The World journeys to its final form. There will be talkbacks with the director and composer/lyricist at select performances.
