New York City
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
The Hyperion Theatre Project is thrilled to bring William Shakespeare’s masterful comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to the Secret Theatre in New York City in May and to theater’s in Milan, Rome, and Pisa in June 2011. A stellar cast of American actors have been assembled to present the show, which will utilize simplified style to focus the attention on the text and the human body as a full instrument. “We are working to bring to light the extreme high stakes of the play, which are often forgotten in many productions,” says text coach Tara Bradway. “We do this in part by not obscuring Shakespeare’s words.” To accomplish this, actors use simple and concise costuming to build their characters and rich, flowing pieces of fabric to create a sense of the space. The set is a deconstruction of the natural world, with the trees and forests being represented and built through pipes, creating a labyrinth of architecture for the actors to traverse. With this production, Hyperion brings to New York City and to Italy the energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the works of William Shakspeare that have become an integral part of art and theater in America.
Final performance: May 19, 2024
