About This Show

Set in the early 1950s, A Magic Place in a New Time tells the story of lonely schoolteacher Amy Baumeister. After enduring a personal scandal in Milwaukee, Amy (with her overprotective mother Hilda in tow) moves to noisy, polluted Chicago for a fresh start. Friendless and emotionally repressed, Amy becomes involved with her neighbor, Walter, a poetic draftsman, and his mentally ill mother, Antoinette. Fighting off the smothering attentions of her own mother as well as the amorous attentions of Harold, the middle-aged Irish cop upstairs, Amy pursues her dream of happiness against oppressive odds. RCL Productions presents the New York premiere of Robert Lesser’s drama, featuring former child actress Susan Gordan (The Five Pennies with Danny Kaye). Robert Armin directs.
