About the Show

A Discouraging Word, written and directed by Johanna Linsley, is a historical drama, political allegory, an existential battle for meaning, and moreover, a musical extravaganza. Set in the bygone days of the early 21st century, this play follows the plight of a plucky Kansas governor who enlists local Boy Scout troops to invade New Hampshire for their coastline. But a state whose motto is “live free or die” may put up a mightier defense than Kansas anticipates. The Compound Eye presents this work as part of the New York International Fringe Festival.
