The Public Theater and LAByrinth Theater Company present Stephen Adly Guirgis’s new play, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, starring Eric Bogosian as “The Devil” and Sam Rockwell as “Judas.” Philip Seymour Hoffman directs.
The play is a time-bending serio-comic drama in an imagined world between Heaven and Hell that re-examines the plight and fate of The New Testament’s most infamous and unexplained ultimate sinner. Throughout the play, figures ranging from “Pontius Pilate” to “Sigmund Freud” are called to testify in a trial of “God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth versus Judas Iscariot.” Other characters include Judas’ mother “Henrietta Iscariot,” “Defense Attorney Dottie Cunningham,” “Prosecuting Attorney Youseff El-Fayoumy,” and Civil War veteran “Judge Littlefield.”
