New York City
“One of the great movers of modern dance” (The New York Times) and “one of modern dance’s great living dance-makers” (New York Magazine), David Parsons and Parsons Dance returns to The Joyce Theater with two World Premieres, including a new dance by David Parsons, set to digitized solo cello music by musician/composer Zoe Keating; and a work choreographed by emerging choreographer and former Parsons dancer, Kate Skarpetowska, set to original music by Kenji Bunch. Parsons’ newest work showcases a dazzling array of shapes and images as it explores themes of how globalization and digitization are making the world an increasingly smaller place. Skarpetowska’s dance explores the lives of four struggling characters who cling to hope and ultimately find redemption. The program also features Parsons’ 2003 classic, Swing Shift, with music by Kenji Bunch; and a duet excerpted from David Parsons’ 1994 hit, Step Into My Dream, set to music by Dr. Billy Taylor, with costumes designed by Missoni. All performances include David Parsons’ stroboscopic masterwork, Caught.
