Nayikas Dance Theater Company

Widely and critically acclaimed, Nayikas is New York’s first resident classical Indian Odissi dance theater company, creating potent, innovative and cutting-edge theatrical dance pieces. It is one of the only classical, yet contemporary dance ensembles of multiethnic comprise in the South Asian Diaspora. Myna Mukherjee’s choreography for the Nayikas gives traditional Odissi an urban and contemporary flair, privileging voices of often neglected women drawn from feminist iconography present in the footnotes of Indian mythology, history, literature and painting.
