Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana

About the Show

The nationally recognized Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana company returns to The Joyce Theater, and will present three works including the New York premieres of "Palillos y Pies," a new work celebrating the range and style of the castanet, as well as "La Seguiriya," a dance showcasing the powerful rhythm of the Seguiriya style and "Flamenco Puro" a traditional celebration of the passion of Flamenco.

Featuring nine dancers and five musicians, the company will perform for its seventh consecutive Joyce season.

"Palillos y Pies," choreographed by Pilar Andujar, uses castanets, the traditional instrument of Spanish Dance. The title translates as “sticks and feet” and the dance will explore the many different ways the castanets can be used through technique, accompaniment and solo capabilities.

"La Seguiriya," choreographed by Antonio Hidalgo will showcase the rhythm of Seguiriya, one of the most profound, ritualistic and stylized dance in flamenco that must be performed with great temperament and passion.

"Flamenco Puro" is a traditional celebration of the passion of Flamenco with longing desire, machine gun footwork and fiery Flamenco rhythms.
