Direct from Salvador, DanceBrazil brings its stunning company of dancers, capoeristas and musicians to present two premiere works and one repertory classic. The Ritual, a premiere performance, offers choreography by the company’s artistic director Jelon Vieria and music by the acclaimed Ramiro Musotto. The Solo is also a premiere performance, a solo by guest artist Ronald K. Brown and performed by Carlos dos Santos, Jr. A reworked version of the favorite repertory work Desafio is also offered.
The major premiere of the evening, The Ritual, examines the rituals practiced by people of the Bahian culture. The work draws on the exciting and strong movement forms of Capoeria, Candoble and Samba as its basis, and as a homage to the vanishing Native Brazilians.
