Doc Dougherty stars in Broad Channel, a one-man show co-written by Dougherty and Anna Theresa Cascio. The play is a dark comic tour of an unearthly island in Queens, New York that takes its residents prisoner and never lets them go. Eddie Doc, a well-groomed garbage man and the playboy of Broad Channel, finds his life forever changed one fateful night in June, 1977 when he loses the new love of his life at a fundraiser for a murderer, finds his old girlfriend having sex on the deli meat counter with a woman, and fights the grip of the place that’s given him comfort and joy as well as an ultimately fortuitous addiction to alcohol, heroin, and the New York Mets. Molly Fowler directs.
