New York City
A Jew Grows in Brooklyn is the story of a baby boomer, the multi-talented son of survivors who grew up in 1960’s Brooklyn and wanted nothing more than to be American. Along the way, Ehrenreich, backed by a trio of musician/singers, performs the popular music of both his and his parent’s generations, and demonstrates, from adolescence in Brooklyn, to the classic Catskills, how survivors learn to live and laugh again. With the help of a visual multi-media set, this extraordinarily joyful and uplifting show weaves philosophy into personal history as Jake recreates his journey from denial to acceptance to rebirth. Praised by critics from the NY Times to the LA Times, and by such Jewish luminaries as Professor Alan Dershowitz and Rabbi Marvin Hier.
