About This Show

Choreographer/dancer Henning Rübsam directs SENSEDANCE, a New York City-based dance company that has been presenting annual New York seasons since 1992, in its premiere of Merciless Beauty.

Rübsam began to choreograph in 1984. He has created over forty dances and has staged them in Australia, New Zealand, Central and South America, and throughout Europe and the U.S. The versatile Rübsam also choreographs for opera and theater, including Outer Critics Circle Award winner Lanie Robertson’s Off-Broadway production Cannibal’s Waltz. He was the subject of television documentaries in both the U.S. and his native Germany and DANCEVISTA produced a TV special on the creation and performance of his Brahms Double Concerto. Filmmaker Simone Wiest featured him for the full-length documentary Dance in New York. A year and a half ago, his work was performed at the gala “Venezuela del Mundo” in the 2400-seat opera house of Caracas and at New York City’s Remember Project benefiting Dancers Responding to AIDS.
