About This Show

Mark Jarecke returns to Danspace with an in-the-round piece performed by and created in collaboration with Andrea Johnston, Molly Poerstel, and Netta Yerushalmy. Dendron explores the dichotomy between our ability to manipulate the environment and the capacity to be influenced by it. From routine use of cell phones and MP3 players to cosmetic surgery, individuals have the power to control their experience of the world. A sound environment by composer Chris Peck incorporates a combination of speakers and FM transmitters that allow the composition to shift uniquely as each audience member moves around the performance area. Fashion designer Maria Cornejo of Zero contributes costumes, Michael Gottlieb lights the performance, and Sean Brown designs the video installation. The audience is encouraged to bring portable radios with earphones.
