Theo Bleckmann returns to Joe’s Pub with Las Vegas Rhapsody (The Night They Invented Champagne), featuring Fumio Yasuda and a string quartet led by Todd Reynolds.
Many have managed to gain eternal fame in Nevada’s “Sin City,” from The Rat Pack, Elvis Presley, and Wayne Newton to Liberace and Siegfried & Roy – they all owe their incomparable careers to the appallingly kitschy, gloriously neon-lit desert oasis. In celebration of 100 years of Las Vegas entertainment, Japanese composer, arranger and pianist Fumio Yasuda, with German-born New York singer Theo Bleckmann in mind, adapted and orchestrated some of the greatest show tunes, including “Out of My Dreams,” “Luck be a Lady,” and “My Favorite Things.”
Bleckmann, who sings with a cultivated, pure, and deeply personal voice, fuses his persona with the text and melody of each number to rediscover these Vegas show-stoppers. The special return engagement features music inspired by Steve & Eydie, Doris Day, Louis Prima and Keely Smith.
Let yourself be carried off to a Las Vegas world of dreams.
