About This Show

Kevin Cahoon and Ghetto Cowboy attempt to take you captive with their pistol power performance and raw theatrics. This glam punk/pop band is one of the most buzzed about new music events in New York City’s downtown music scene. The group’s song “Fashionista” was featured on several runways during the Spring 2006 Fashion Week, and is currently in the top 50 for Sirius Satellite Radio / OutQ’s Mid-Year Music Survey.

Born and raised just outside of Houston, Kevin Cahoon first performed on the local rodeo circuit as a rodeo clown. He wasted no time reaching the zenith of pop culture stardom for teenagers in the 80s with his appearance on Star Search, taking home the Junior Grand Championship in 1985 with a show tune (though he won’t tell which song he sang). Cahoon also recently originated the role of George in The Wedding Singer. Having built his career and extensive fanbase with the edgy/alternative roles he has played on Broadway, Kevin’s credits include The Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Ed the Hyena in The Lion King and Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Most recently, Cahoon performed at the benefit for Friends In Deed, Brilliant Mistake: Broadway Sings Elvis Costello, where he shared the stage with many noteworthy artists, including Costello, singing what Variety called, “a rowdy glam-induced version of ‘Lipstick Vogue.'” Joining Kevin on the Joe’s Pub stage are Matt Allen, Brien Brannigan, Montego Glover, Chris Jago, Steve Lavner, Angela Lockett, and Jan Tilley in addition to other special guests.

“On a Broadway stage, Kevin Cahoon is the Childcatcher, a menacing, heavily made-up creature in black who scares small children in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. On a downtown club stage, Mr. Cahoon is the lead singer for a glam rock band called Kevin Cahoon and Ghetto Cowboy, a menacing, heavily made-up punk rocker.” – The New York Times
