Impossible But True

About This Show

Impossible But True is an immersive tavern musical that brings the audience into a small town in the Catskills as the American revolution arrives. It is loosely based on Washington Irving’s “Rip Van Winkle” — except in this version, Rip disappears for 20 years when he gets PTSD from serving in the Revolutionary War. The character of Rip’s hot-tempered wife, Rebecca, is expanded and we learn about how she helped lead a battle against the British.

The cast of Molly Bremer, Laura Bright, Timothy Jacob Brown, John Calabrese, Joe Castinado, RJ Christian, Julia Fein, Ace McCarthy, and Amalia Sancholuz sings, dances, and shares the story in the aisles, at the bar, and in front of the piano.

Book, music, and lyrics by Dan Furman. Directed by Cailín Heffernan (SDC) with Furman as Music Director and Caleigh Chapman as stage manager.

Come early (6:45) for samples of “flip” (the most popular tavern drink in revolutionary America!) outside at the brick oven.
