About This Show

Father Forgive Me For I Have Sinned is a coming-of-age autobiographical solo piece written and performed by José Roldan which tells the story of a Latino boy who grew up in the South Bronx of New York City during the 1980’s and ’90’s. In a moving performance, José straddles the inner struggles of being a gay man while defying negative cultural stereotypes about his sexual identity. He channels some of his most memorable family members including his sister, a freestyle drama queen from the Bronx, his Bruja Tia (Auntie Witchie-poo) who has mastered the art of how to keep a man, his quintessentially macho father, as well as his off-the-wall fire-spitting Puerto Rican mother. José gives you his NYC Latino version of “All In The Family” sprinkled with South Bronx soul and riotous clashes, which all takes place in a family living room. Ultimately, the show ends on an inspirational high as José finally finds self-acceptance in the midst of his inner struggle.
