About This Show

Elizabeth and the Catapult’s singular sound has been described as "a mixture of organic jazz, rock and pop." Strings, horns, marimba and synthesizers are all blended together, creating an organic, off-beat style that fans often refer to as "baroque pop". Comprised of Elizabeth Ziman (vocals, keys), Danny Molad (drums), and Peter Lalish (guitar), Elizabeth and the Catapult came into existence in 2004. Since then, they have racked up an impressive list of accomplishments. They were featured on WNYC’s "Soundcheck" as well as PRI’s "Fair Game with Faith Salie". NPR dubbed them as "One of the Best Discoveries of 2006." Following concerts in NYC at the Living Room, Rockwood Music Hall, The Knitting Factory, The Bitter End, and venues across the country, and tours with Jessie Harris, Kirk Kirkwood, The Wood Brothers, Amanda Palmer, and soul queen Patti Austin, the buzz supported a tour, label interest, and a place as the Billboard Underground Artist for October 2008. Trained as a classical pianist, Elizabeth has developed a sound all her own. Her baroque pop songs have been compared to Rufus Wainright, Fiona Apple and Laura Nyro. Elizabeth received the ASCAP Leiber and Stoller award for her song "Like Water is to Sand." The Boston Globe stated, “The self-assured Elizabeth and the Catapult prove what a sultry-voiced Greenwich Village habitue with a Norah Jones jones should do: Just let it flow.”
