About This Show

The sounds of hip-hop and classical, Harlem and downtown will converge at Joe’s Pub as composer/performer Daniel Bernard Roumain performs songs from his I, Composer and Dred Violin CDs with his eight-piece Hip-Hop “Rockestra,” DBR’s Mission, featuring the DBR’s Mission String Quartet, and Wynne Bennett on keyboards. Described as “a combination of Mozart, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Prince,” Roumain uses his visionary blend of classical and hip-hop music to explore his life as a (black) man, composer, and violinist. DBR is Music Director for Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Assistant Composer-in Residence for the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, a featured artist on Optometry, the latest and critically acclaimed record by DJ Spooky, and has recently collaborated with Grammy-award winning jazz artist Cassandra Wilson. DBR is joined tonight by special guests, Sony recording artist Lara St. John and NYC’s downtown beat professor DJ Scientific.
